‘Youth should be involved in policy making’

* TV show producer stresses importance of organising campaigns in colleges, universities
* Nadia Jamil highlights importance of recognising disabled youth

LAHORE: A delegation comprising representatives of the volunteer group Zimmedar Shehri and an up and coming private TV channel’s programme Nai Rahain met Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif at his residence to discuss a memorandum of understanding between the state, media and civil society to create awareness about solid waste management and the importance of making the youth a part of policy making in the country.

Zimmedar Shehri’s founder member Saif Hameed introduced his group’s work, agenda and the difficulties they faced during the clean-up campaigns across Lahore, Sargodha and Faisalabad.

Nai Rahain Associate Producer Sadaf Noshahi spoke about the importance of recognising the youth as an integral part of policy making and recognising them as a potential asset to policy makers.

Campaigns: Mukaram Kaleem, another associate producer, talked about the youth’s dedication and the importance of different youth groups coming together to serve the country. He stressed on the importance of awareness campaigns in colleges and universities about civil responsibility.

Murtaza Khawaja and Shoaib of Zimmedar Shehri also agreed to the cause of creating a sense of civic responsibility in the youth.

Disabled: Nadia Jamil reiterated the importance of the youth’s involvement in decision making. She appreciated the role of her programme’s team and the Zimmedar Shehri in working towards a better Pakistan. She also highlighted the importance of recognising the achievements of the disabled youth, supporting them and the need to include them in any move to building a better Pakistan.

Nadia also stressed on the media’s role in creating awareness about environment and improving civic responsibility.

Moreover, Shahbaz Sharif said he wished to include such vibrant youth in decision-making. It was decided that further meetings will be held to discuss youth awareness campaigns in colleges, tapping of youth as a resource to develop the country and finally the inclusion of dynamic and committed youth in policy making.
