Young man held for five-year-old girl’s rape
KARACHI: A 23-year-old man was booked and arrested on Thursday for rape of a five-year-old girl in Malir, police said.
They said the suspect was arrested with the assistance of area people who helped trace him after the victim girl shared her ordeal with the family following the sexual assault.
“The police came to know about the incident in the second half of the day,” said Inspector Izhar Hussain, the SHO of the Saudabad police station. “The incident happened in Punjabi Para, a low-income Christian locality in Malir, and the suspect and the victim girl are the residents of the same area.”
He said the initial medical examination of the victim girl proved a sexual assault on her and samples had been sent for a chemical examination.
The police said the victim girl was found unstable an hour after she returned home as noticed by members of her family. On inquiring, she told them about the alleged crime committed by one of their neighbours, said an official associated with the investigation section of the Saudabad police station.
“Since the girl is too young and not articulate enough to narrate exactly what happened, the family was later told by the neighbours that she was last seen with the suspect by children playing in the street,” he added. Later, the girl was taken to a nearby private hospital where the doctors showed doubts about a sexual assault.
“Some youngsters then approached the police and a few tried to trace the suspect, who was finally found in the area but was unaware that the crime he had committed had come into the police’s notice,” added Inspector Izhar.
“The police later approached that area and arrested the suspect, who after a brief interrogation confessed to having committed the crime. The girl was sent for a medico-legal examination at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre that proved the crime, and samples were sent for a further chemical examination.”
The police meanwhile registered an FIR (244/2010) under Section 376 (punishment for rape) of the Pakistan Penal Code against the suspect on the complaint of the victim girl’s father.
