WWF launches Green Skills Project

LAHORE: The World Wide Fund for Nature-Pakistan (WWF-Pakistan) has launched a skills development project for youth ‘Green Skills Project’ in Islamabad. The project’s objective is to impart knowledge about renewable/sustainable energy, livestock management and crop administration to 300 provincial participants to achieve sustainable financial and environmental results. Minister of State for Education Trainings and Standards in Higher Education, Baleegh-ur-Rehman, was the chief guest at the occasion.

Ali Hassan Habib, Director General, WWF- Pakistan, said that this project would help in capacity building of local population and equip them with modern techniques to incorporate sustainability in their day-to-day work.

Dr Ghulam Akbar, Senior Director, WWF-Pakistan, shared the objectives of WWF-Pakistan projects and the logic of investing in youth development for sustainability.

Dr Juile Reviere, Program Director, Education Sector, GIZ Pakistan stated her commitment to support the project.

Projected estimates suggest that 2,300 families are expected to benefit from this project. This program will initially be conducted in 4 districts of Punjab: Muzaffargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan, Khanewal, Jhang. The project is supported by Fund for Innovative Training, created under TVET Reform Support Programme, which is co-funded by the European Union, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands and the Federal Republic of Germany and being implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH GIZ in collaboration with NAVTTC.
