Workshop on ‘Investigative Journalism’ held at AIOU

Islamabad: A workshop on ‘Investigative Journalism’ was organised by the US Embassy in collaboration with the Department of Mass Communication, Allama Iqbal Open University, at the AIOU main campus on Tuesday.

During the workshop the speaker, Donald Jay Morfoot, Jr. an Emmy Award-winning TV producer/writer gave a comprehensive lecture on duties and responsibilities of journalists in imparting information to the citizens, that is accurate, true and is reported honestly and independently from outside influences.

The US media trainer, Donald Morfoot has background as a senior producer/writer positions on NBC, CBS and ABC news programmes, including both studio and field roles.

While sharing his views and experiences during his carer, he gave several examples and problems, he faced while discharging his duties, as a journalist.

During the interactive session, Donald Morfoot said that the journalists are the eyes and ears of the society in other words they play role of watchdogs on every segment of the society.

He further said the main aim of journalism is to provide accurate and reliable information to his target population. So, he said that they should be very careful in gathering their reports, based on accuracy and facts.

The workshop was organised under the patronage of Department of Mass Communication Head Dr. Syed Abdul Siraj.

Allama Iqbal Open University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Nazir Ahmed Sangi chaired the concluding session of the workshop. At the end he thanked the guests.
