ISLAMABAD: Raising serious concerns about environmental security of the country, experts at a workshop said that irregular urbanisation and rise of pollution in the urban centres of Pakistan are posing tremendous risks to the environmental security of the country.

This was expressed by the experts of a workshop titled “Environment and Climate Change”, which was k jointly organised with partnership of the Senate Subcommittee on Environment, Pakistan-China Institute and National Press Club in the premises of Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) on Thursday. Also, the workshop was designed for the media personnel and policymakers to broaden ‘understanding and sensitisation on issues related to environmental protection and climate change in Pakistan that focused on the focused of media, parliamentarians and other key, actors in advocating and promoting environmental sustainability.

Ambassador (r) Shafqat Kakakhel was also present on the occasion. He said that the burning of fossil fuels has led to an upsurge in greenhouse emissions and there is a need for exploring renewable energy options.
