Women MPAs join journalists’ protest against lawyers

LAHORE: The journalists took out a protest rally against the highhandedness of lawyers towards media persons and indifferent attitude of their regulatory councils and associations. The rally was taken out from the office of Punjab Union of Journalists (PUJ) to Aiwan-e-Adal with the massive participation of journalists.

Female members of Punjab Assembly including Sajida Mir of PPP also joined the rally. The protesting journalists were led by Pakistan Federal Union of Journalist (PFUJ) President Pervez Shaukat who chanted slogans against vandalism of lawyers and demanded strict action against the responsible bar members. Journalists belonged to print and electronic media also staged a sit-in at PMG Chowk.

Speaking on the occasion, President PFUJ Shaukat Pervez said that the lawyers had forgotten when media was standing by them throughout their movement for restoration of judiciary. He said success of their movement was impossible without the support of media. He said the journalists would continue protest till strict action against the accused-lawyers was not taken.
