Women and authority
NIDDERAU, GERMANY: This is with reference to your editorial of August 8 titled “Incident at gallery”. What happened is but a fraction of the cruelties that most women in Pakistan endure, almost on a daily basis.
This particular incident came to light only because the woman belongs to an elite group. Think of the millions of women who cannot step out of their homes and have to make do with seeing daylight from their windows. In the West, even dogs are taken out for long walks because it is deemed good for their health. Clearly, the legacy of Zia still eclipses us.
