Woman found shot dead after quarrel with husband

KARACHI: A 38-year-old woman was shot dead allegedly by her husband in the early hours of Friday in Surjani Town, police said.

They said they found Naseem Akhtar, the mother of three, dead in her second floor apartment with a single bullet wound in the head. Her children were screaming in fear, they added.

“Neighbours approached the police with the information that they heard gunshot from inside the apartment following an exchange of hot words between the victim and her husband Shamim Ahmed,” said Sub-Inspector Javed Abbas, the SHO of the Surjani Town police station.

The police rushed to the scene and found entrance of the apartment in Stylish Garden open, he said, adding that they found the woman lying dead in the sitting room.

“The victim was the mother two daughters and a son, who were asleep when the incident occurred; the children woke up by the sound of gunshot,” said an official associated with the investigation section of the Surjani Town police station.

He said the police had found a spent TT pistol bullet from the crime-scene and were looking for the victim’s husband, who was missing.

“Shamim Ahmed runs a real estate agency in the same area. The couple’s families and other relatives appeared unaware of a strained marital relationship as the murder came as a shocking surprise to everyone,” he said.

The victim’s body was handed over to her family after medico-legal formalities performed at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

The police said a case would be registered when anyone from the victim’s family, busy in her funeral at the moment, came to lodge a complaint.
