Wali Khan Babar`s murder Journalists want govt`s clarification

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists has given five days to the government to clarify its position with regard to former Sindh home minister Zulfikar Mirza’s statement that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was behind the killing of GEO reporter Wali Khan Babar.

In a statement issued here on Monday, the PFUJ expressed concern over the governmentÂ’s inability to arrest the culprits involved in the murder of Mr Babar.

The statement said the journalist community was in a fix over the revelation made by Mr Mirza.

“Journalists are being targeted with impunity and the government has failed miserably to check this dangerous trend,” the statement said.

In an emergency meeting, the National Press Club also expressed its concern over Mr Mirza’s allegation.

The meeting presided over by NPC President Afzal Butt called upon the government to explain its position about the killers of Mr Babar and warned that if it was not done organisations of journalists would devise their strategy and would not hesitate to launch a countrywide movement.
