Wage board meeting delayed for a month

KARACHI- Federal Minister for Labour and Manpower Omar Asghar Khan has said that the next meeting of the 7th wage board has been delayed for about a month.

He said that the meeting has been delayed because the newspaper owners are to be brought on board. “We want to get them with the newspaper employees representatives for some agreement (regarding the announcement of the wage board award),” he added.

He said that the chairman of the 7th Wage Board would convene the next meeting, but after a delay of about a month.

Omar said that the wage board, award would be notified, but it would take sometime. “We also want to see the implementation of the 6th wage board award,” he, added.

He took exception to the remarks of some politicians that the government wants to impose some restrictions on the Press. He vehemently dispelled such an impression saying: “We value the Press as well as the freedom of the Press.”

He also pointed towards the significance of role of the Press and hoped that it would continue to play that in a very effective and responsible manner.
