Veteran journalist Mahmudul Aziz felicitated for receiving APNS ‘Life Time Achievement Award’

KARACHI: At an impressive ceremony held at the spacious lawn of Zar Villa, main Khayaban-e-Hafiz, DHA, to felicitate Mahmudul Aziz, a veteran journalist, on receiving from President Asif Ali Zardari recently at the Presidency in Islamabad, the APNS -‘Life Time Achievement Award, speakers paid tributes to Aziz s outstanding contribution to journalism as Managing Editor of United Press of Pakistan (UPP) and Editor of Pictorial News Review (PNR) and Member and Office-bearer of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) and APNS.

Bashir Jhumra, ex Director of Nawai-Waqt recalled the positive role played by Mahmudul Aziz for press freedom. He appreciated the righteousness of Mahmudul Aziz and his devotion to his profession as a journalist.

Wamiq Zuberi, Editor of Business Recorder and Director Aaj TV, mentioned the long association he and his father the late M A Zuberi had with Mahmudul Aziz and his father the late Syed A Hafiz, founder of UPP, and the professional uprightness of Mahmudul Aziz.

Brig Anis Ahmed, Station Commander, Karachi and President of Clifton Cantonment Board, congratulated Mahmudul Aziz on receiving the coveted APNS ‘Life Time Achievement Award’ from the President of Pakistan and commended on his lofty contribution to the journalistic field.

Qutubuddin Aziz, ex-Minister at Pakistan Embassy in London and in Washington, recollected the hard work done by Mahmud while he was posted by UPP to head the Lahore Office that looked after Punjab and Kashmir at that time. He appreciated his loyalty to journalism and UPP. The Consul-General of Indonesia, Rossalis Adenan, appreciated the knowledge Mahmudul Aziz had about Indonesia and his contributions in past as a friend of Indonesia as well as President of the Pakistan Indonesia Friendship Society. Rossalis talked about the affection people of Indonesia have for Pakistan due to historical reasons of mutual support and love.

Others who spoke and felicitated Mahmudul Aziz were Air Commodore Shabbir Khan, Mrs Zulekha Zar, Mrs Meena Rizwan, Mrs Sarnina Iqbal Qasim,Col Rafat Naqvi, Addl Director and Editor Defence News, Anwar Aziz Jakartawala, Hassan al Adwi, of Arab News, Brig. Muzzafar, Director, Training, National Bank, and Mrs Sohela Mahmudul Aziz.

Ms Sajida Raheem, from Boston, USA, on a visit to Pakistan and close friend of the Aziz family recited Naat-e-Rasool Maqbool. She also congratulated Mahmudul Aziz on receiving the prestigious Award. Ms Shahin Khan, a Ph.D student of Karachi University in International Affairs, presented a bouquet to Mahmudul Aziz on her and her brother Riaz Khan’s behalf.

Khalidul Aziz conducted the program and Mrs Muslehuddin Khan offered Dua for Pakistan, for Mahmudul Aziz and all family members and guests. Shields were presented to Mahmudul Aziz on behalf of larger Aziz family, Amin, Zar N Ali families. A large number of friends, admirers and well-wishers of Mahmudul Aziz attended the felicitation dinner at ZAR villa, DHA.
