By Sohail Khan ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar, who is going to retire today (Saturday) as the country’s top judge, left the Supreme Court on Friday. Justice Dogar became the chief justice on November 3, 2007 when former military dictator Pervez Musharraf imposed emergency in the country and sacked Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and other judges of the superior judiciary after they declined to take oath under the PCO. Before his departure to his official residence, the outgoing top judge met other judges and staff of the apex court, who saw him off from the Supreme Court building. Meanwhile, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will assume the charge on March 22. However, he would arrive in the Supreme Court on March 24. The former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan, told media persons that the SCBA Executive Body members would take Chief Justice Iftikhar to the Supreme Court. He said a flag-hoisting ceremony would be held at the official residence of Chief Justice Iftikhar on Sunday. He said flag hoisting at the residence of the CJ was the desire of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, therefore, a flag would be hoisted on her behalf. Aitzaz said close associates of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto — Naheed Khan, Safdar Abbasi and late lawyers leader Imdad Awan’s son Shaheryar Awan — will hoist the flag. He said political parties had also been invited to the ceremony. Meanwhile, people from different walks of life continued to meet Justice Iftikhar at his residence on Friday. Supreme Court judges Justice Nasirul Mulk, Justice Tasadduq Hussain Jilani and the federal law secretary again called on the chief justice at his residence. Earlier, Aitzaz Ahsan and Safdar Abbasi also visited the CJ’s residence and congratulated him on his restoration.
