The
PPF maintains a web site at www.oneworld.org/ppf. The
website includes regular updates of important news about
developments in press, broadcasting and information technology.
Also on the updates are the PPF Newsflash that highlight
attacks against the media.
PPF is compiling a bibliography on media in Pakistan. While a great deal has
been written on mass communication in Pakistan, there is so far no bibliography
available on the subject. The lack of bibliography greatly hinders serious
research on the issues relating to mass communication in Pakistan. Work on
compiling a bibliography on the media has started by PPF and it is expected
to be published in the near future.
The bibliography include details of articles published in academic journals
in Pakistan and overseas; books and chapters of books; government media policies,
laws, ordinances and awards; major court decisions relating to the media; masters
and PhD theses accepted in Pakistan and abroad; reports of consultants and
international agencies such as the World Bank and UNESCO; supplements, yearbooks,
commemorative publications of national media organisations; and papers dealing
with mass communication in Pakistan presented at national and international
conferences.
The
PPF produces the PPF NewsFlash, a service designed to
highlight threats to press freedom to make harassment
of journalists and news organisations politically and
socially unacceptable. The PPF NewsFlash is circulated
internationally through the International Freedom of
Expression Exchange (IFEX) to about two thousand groups
around the world. Usually within a matter of hours, many
of these groups respond by sending protests to government
leaders and the media. |
