Urdu software authority to be setup

LAHORE- The Federal Government has decided to setup an Urdu Software development Authority. The Authority would work for promotion of Urdu software development and its application in day-to-day use of computer.

This was disclosed by Salman Ansari, advisor to Ministry of Science and Technology, at a four-day workshop at FAST National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences Lahore Campus, which concluded here the other day. He said that government was working with its top most priority for promotion of information technology.

The Director, FAST-NU, Lahore Campus, Qaiser Durrani said the use of computer technology cannot benefit common man if only English language software is available, on PCs. In order to take it to our masses, FAST-NU organized this workshop. He said this workshop would provide an opportunity for software developers, computer scientists and interested students working in this area to furnish a healthy forum for the identification of issues and initiate further development.

The experts from all over Pakistan delivered their lectures on different topics which include Urdu Fonts, Urdu E-mail, Urdu Machine Translation, Urdu Lexicon, Urdu Chat Servers, Urdu Word Processing Urdu Active Controls and Urdu Optical Character Recognition.

Some of the distinguished speakers were Mirza Jameel, Inventor of Noori Nastaliq, Dr Humayun Mian, System Ltd, Dr Khaver Zia, Dr Sarmad Hussain and Dr M. Afzal.
