United CPNE formed

KARACHI: A United Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) has been formed after a merger of the two groups of the CPNE on Wednesday after negotiations and deliberations.

Presidents of both the groups of the CPNE, Khushnood Ali Khan and Jamil Azhar, said in a statement that a united council of the CPNE has been formed after hectic efforts of Mr Hameed Haroon.

Jamil Azhar has been made the President of the United CPNE while Amir Mahmood has been named as the General Secretary. Other office-bearers include; Ilyas Shakir (Senior Vice-President), Rehmat Ali Razi (Vice-President Punjab), Tanveer Qaiser (Vice-President Islamabad), Tahir Farooq (Vice-President Khyber-Pakhtun khwa), Dr Waqar Yousuf Azeemi (Vice-President Sindh), Waseem Ahmed (Vice-President Baloch istan), Ghulam Nabi Chandio (Joint Secretary) and Mushtaq Qureshi (Finance Secretary).

In an announcement by the CPNE, it has been said that the annual meeting of the CPNE will be held in November and code of conduct for journalists, freedom of the Press, responsibilities of editors and journalists will come under discussion in order to form the future strategy.
