Under-age marriage foiled; police free accused
DADU: A greedy father’s attempt to sell her 12-year-old daughter to an old man was foiled by a court after the issue was taken up by local and international media.
According to police report, Mohammad Khan Solangi, resident of village Rato Solangi in the jurisdiction of Thaddi Muhabat police station, pledged to Haji Sherial Solangi, who recently returned to Dadu from Saudi Arabia, to marry his daughter Zahida Solangi to him after taking an amount of Rs 70,000.
In this regard, engagement celebration was also held. However, as the matter was taken up by local and international media, the Thaddi Muhabat police were compelled to take action by arresting 10 villagers and the girl’s father and Qazi just when the Nikah was about to be performed.
Zahida and her father and mother were produced before the district and sessions judge, Dadu, where the victim girl and her father refused to admit that the girl’s under-age marriage with an old man was about to take place. Later, the police released all the arrested accused persons.
