Two women raped, murdered and dumped

KARACHI: Two women were kidnapped, raped, killed and then dumped in the Steel Town police limits, officials claimed on Thursday.

Though the bodies remained unidentified, officials said that both women were approximately 30 to 40 years of age. A passer-by saw the bodies and informed the police, after which a police mobile shifted the bodies to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and then referred to the Civil Hospital as per the standard legal procedure.

The female medico-legal officer (MLO) of the Civil Hospital said that the bodies were at least 12 hours old and that the women had been raped before being gunned down. Both women were shot in the head.

The SHO Steel Town told The News that the women were wearing shalwar kameez and seemed to belong to “financially sound families”. However, police surgeon Hamid Parhyar later told The News that the women had apparently not been subjected to sexual assault prior to murder.

“The two women, who appeared to be sisters, were between 35 and 40 years of age. They were shot at point-blank range. One of them sustained a single bullet injury in the head and the other sustained two bullets, one in the neck and the other in the forehead,” he said.

According to the surgeon, when the bodies were brought for autopsies, the lady doctor who performed the autopsies found no visible evidence of sexual assault or any attempt at defiling their bodies.

He said that they had sent their DNA samples for identification and swabs for chemical examination to ascertain if they were subjected to any sexual assault. The bodies of the women had been shifted to the Edhi morgue temporarily until their identification following their post-mortem examinations at the Civil Hospital Karachi, he added.
