Two girls raped, one killed in Naushahro Feroze

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: Two girls were raped on the day of Eid and one of them was
later killed. Sumaira Awan, 18, was kidnapped, raped and later killed by four people on the day of Eid.

Police said an uncle of the deceased, Abdul Rasheed Awan, had lodged a complaint with the Halani police station against four people, including Ghulam Abbas and Riaz Chang.

He stated that his niece, Sumaira Awan, was kidnapped at gunpoint by the accused from her house on Eid morning. He added that the accused had taken her to†an unknown place where they raped and brutally tortured her. The girl died and the accused threw her body in the Rohri Canal.

The body was recovered by villagers a few miles away, he said and added that the villagers informed the police, which told the relatives about the deceased. The police have arrested Ghulam Abbas and Riaz Chang.

Separately, a man raped a six-year-old girl in village Soomar Channar in the jurisdiction of the Tharoo Shah police station.

Police said the father of the girl, Irshad Channar, complained to the Tharoo Shah police station against Ismail, who also belonged to the Channar tribe and the same village. Irshad said that on the day of Eid, his daughter Fiza had gone to a nearby shop. When she was late, he and his two relatives started searching for her in the village.

He added that when they reached near the drawing room of a house, they heard cries of a child, who was later found to be his daughter. She was being raped by the accused, who managed to escape despite their efforts to catch him, Irshad said.

The girl was taken to the Civil Hospital, Naushahro Feroze, for treatment but due to her critical condition, doctors referred her to a Nawabshah hospital. Meanwhile, leaders of an NGO, Sparc, staged a demonstration outside the Naushahro Feroze Press Club on Friday. The demonstrators were led by Ghulam Hussain Soomro and others. They chanted slogans against the accused and demanded the higher authorities to take action against the accused.
