Two-day South Asia Media Summit begins today

Role of media in problem solving to be highlighted; speakers to point out different aspects of creative writing; event being organised by APNS

ISLAMABAD: The two-day South Asian Media Summit will be held at the Pak-China Friendship Building here on Wednesday (today).The summit has been organized by the All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS).

The summit will start at 10 am with the welcome address of President All Pakistan Newspapers Society and Managing Director Marketing Jang Media Group Sarmad Ali which would be followed by another welcome address by the Editor-in-Chief and Chairman Exchange4media Group Anurag Batra.

At 10:30 am CEO Times of India Ravi Dhariwal will have a keynote lecture on ‘Newspapers and the New Media – Are We Ready? The bond of the media needs to reinvent with the advent of the new media ecosystem. We hear from the honcho of one of the leading dailies in India about the Plan of Action for the future of newspapers.

A special address of former federal minister for information Javed Jabbar will be delivered on ‘Writing Bond’s Screenplay —- Challenges & expectations from the media across the borders’. After tea break, at 11:30 there would be a panel discussion on ‘The world is not enough – Redefining the role of Newspapers’.

The participants of the discussion will be J. Gopi Krishan, Special Correspondent Pioneer; Ms Saadia Sharif, Director Marketing The News Pakistan; Vijitha Yapa, Founder Chairman & MD Vijitha Yapa Group; and Umar Shami from Daily Pakistan, while President & Publisher Chitralekha Group Mitrajit Bhattacharya will be the moderator in this panel discussion.

The second panel discussion will be held after 12:30 pm on ‘You only live twice – Innovative marketing tools.’ Creative print advertising solutions; becoming an advertising solutions provider; structuring cultural change; changing the mindset.

The participants of the discussion will be Taher A. Khan, Founder & Chairman Interflow Communications; Masood Hashmi, CEO Orientm McCann Erickson; Masood Hamid, Secretary General APNS and director marketing Dawn Group of newspapers; and Mr. Ravi Dhriwal, CEO Times of India, while Krishna Prasad, Editor-in-Chief Outlook, will hold this discussion as the moderator.

The third panel discussion will be held after lunch at 2:30 pm on ‘Never say never again – Youth Panel’. Redefining and recognizing the role of media through the eyes of the youth. Their tools and gadgets. The participants of this discussion will be Sanvardeep Obrai, Founder and Chief Thinker of Thincquisitive.com; Nitish Shah, Editor-in-Chief Youth Incorporated; Champika, Srilanka; Ali Hasan, Asst GM Dawn; and Ms. Jugnu Mohsin, Publisher Good Times, while Samyak S. Chakraborty, Chief Youth Marketer DDB Mudra, will hold this discussion as moderator.

After tea break at 4 pm Sarmad Ali will reconvene the gathering for a special address on “Making of tomorrow’s media icons – Comment on the future of media”. Turning around dwindling revenues to profit-making ventures – what needs to be done right. By Chairman Essel and Zee Group Mr. Subhash Chandra which would be followed by the address of the chief guest Raja Pervez Ashraf, Prime Minister of Pakistan.

On the second day, again after the welcome address by Sarmad Ali, President All Pakistan Newspapers Society and Managing Director Marketing Jang Media Group, and Anurag Batra, Editor-in-Chief and Chairman Exchange4media Group, a keynote lecture on ‘Preparing for the Dawn of a new era in media’ by Hameed Haroon, CEO Dawn Media Group. A special address on ‘The Spy who loved me’. The Role of the Media in Conflict Resolution between India and Pakistan” will be delivered by renowned anchorperson Najam Sethi.

Question-Answers will be held by Krishna Prasad, Editor-in-Chief Outlook. A special address on ‘From South Asia with love – bridging media parity across the borders’ will delivered by Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira.

The first panel discussion on ‘The man with the Golden Gun – Media Planners perspective aligning with what the client wants’ will be held.

The participants of the discussion will be Sam Balsara, Chairman and Managing Director Madison World; Sarmad Ali, President APNS; Fouad Hussain, General Manager Mindshare Pakistan; Aly Mustansir, EVP & Head of Marketing and Brand Management HBL; and Noman Nabi, Brain Child, while Shivnath Thukar, Gr. President Corp Branding & Strategic Initiatives, Essar, will be moderator.

Special Presentation – A presentation by Goafest Committee Sam Balsara established in 2006, Goafest now attracts over 3,000 delegates and well over 5,000 entries from India and the rest of South Asia. It consistently features some of most admired global leaders in advertising as speakers.

Goafest Committee shares the highlights of the 2013 festival with the advertising fraternity of Pakistan and invites participation from Pakistan in terms of a delegation and entries from agencies.

At 1 pm a special address on “M” Unraveling the confusion – Perspective on Newspapers in the New media eco system:- The good, the bad and the ugly” will be delivered by Mir Ibrahim Rahman, CEO, GEO Television Network, which would be followed by the second panel discussion on ‘A view to kill – Power Panel’. Challenges faced individually and solutions sought collectively. A panel of the heavyweights culminating the learning’s from the 2 day summit; Promoters, publishers and broadcasters from across the subcontinent put forth their view points; transforming newspapers into news media organizations; Envisaging media as a whole for the future; new product development strategies ; Remaining relevant in a digital world; what should/will the newspaper in particular and media at large of tomorrow look like?

The participants of the discussion will be Mir Ibrahim Rehman, CEO, GEO Television Network; Bilal Ali Lakhani, Editor and Publisher Express Tribune; Ms. Rameeza Nizami, Deputy Managing Director Nawa-i-Waqt Group; Nazafreen Saigol, Director Operations Dawn Newspaper; and Ashish Bagga, CEO India Today Group, while Tauqeer Muhajir, CEO Millennium Media, will hold the discussion as moderator.

‘Live and Let Die’- IPSOS Presentation will be delivered by Babar Abdul Sattar and followed by the third panel discussion on ‘Skyfall – Converging digital world’. The participants of the discussion will be Anant Goenka, head New Media Indian Express; Adil Ahmad, Director Symmetry Group; Amin Rammal, Founder & Active Partner Firebolt63 Asiatic Public Relations, Digispace & Spark; Faisal Sherjan, Jang Group and Moonis Rehman, Naseeb Networks, while Anurag Batra will be moderator.
