TV reporter beaten up at KU

KARACHI: Reporter of a private TV channel and a student from the Karachi University’s Urdu department, were maltreated by some students alleged to be the activists of a student organisation at the campus, on Thursday.

The reporter informed The News that he was on a visit to the university on some personal errand, when passing beside the library, he saw some students beating up another student. He approached the scene to inquire about the reason of the scuffle. Some of the students grabbed him and asked him to prove his identity. The students thrashed him after snatching his card and accused him of sitting with girls. The reporter of the TV channel called his colleagues to reach the scene with a cameraman.

They contacted the PRO of the varsity and inquired about the incident. The PRO expressed his ignorance about the incident as the reporter had not come to his office and he was not on an official assignment from his channel. He further said that it was customary that media persons come to his office if they were on assignments and often visited him while on personal visits.

The reporter of the TV channel has lodged his complaint with the Campus Security Supervisor against the offenders. The News tried to get the version of the accused party students but the calls went unattended.
