Once again, TV CEO, anchor fail to appear before court

ISLAMABAD: Additional District and Sessions Judge, Islamabad, Wajid Ali, has adjourned the hearing of prosecution against a private television channel for defaming the Jang-Geo Group till October 14.

The judge exempted two of the accused, Salman Iqbal and Mubasher Lucman, from appearance on account of their illness.It may be mentioned that Salman Iqbal and Mubasher Lucman have not appeared before court on many occasions in different cases.

In Wednesday’s hearing, the accused, including Aqeel Karim Dhedhi, Sabir Shakir, Arif Hameed Bhatti, and Naeem Hanif, appeared before the court, while ARY Chief Executive Officer Salman Iqbal and anchorperson Mubasher Lucman were not present.

On the occasion, counsel for the Independent Media Corporation (IMC), Amir Abdullah Abbasi, requested the court to issue non-bailable arrest warrants for Salman Iqbal and Mubasher Lucman.

Meanwhile, the counsel of the two accused presented their medical certificates before the court.He said that according to the law, if the accused did not appear before the court on bailable warrants, his non-bailable arrest warrants could be issued.

An employee of the private TV channel, Sabir Shakir, told the court that Salman Iqbal had reached Karachi from the US. He said that Iqbal did not refuse to be present on the occasion but could not travel due to illness. Afterwards, the court exempted Salman Iqbal and Mubasher Lucman from appearing before the court for one day. Hearing of the case was adjourned till October 14.
