Trust for terror-hit journalists heirs

PESHAWAR: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has announced establishment of a trust for the welfare of the heirs of those journalists who became victims of terrorism.

The Prime Minister announced this during his chat with media persons here at Governor House on Friday.

The Premier announced establishment of the trust with an amount of Rs 2 millions. He also assured that government was, determinate take steps for the safety of journalists who were working in a hostile environment of NWFP and adjacent tribal areas.

He also announced Rs 1.5 million for Peshawar Press Club. He praised journalist community of Peshawar for extending remarkable hospitality and help to the journalists and workers of newspaper industry from affected regions.

Earlier on behalf of journalists, President Peshawar Press Club Shamirn Shahid welcomed the Prime Minister and appreciated government’s steps against terrorism and militancy.

He said that like Armed Forces, Frontier Corps, Frontier Constabulary and NWFP Police, the journalists from that region were also contributing in jihad against militancy and terrorism.

He said 13 journalists from the region had been martyred, whereas a large number of others were either abducted or their relatives were made hostages by Taliban militants. He assured the government of wholehearted support of journalist community in the ongoing action against miscreants.
