Transparency in financial matters: administrators told to display monthly accounts on websites
LAHORE: Punjab Local Government Minister Sirdar Dost Muhammad Khan Khosa has directed town/tehsil administrators to immediately prepare websites of their respective towns and tehsil and display monthly statement of accounts, indicating expenditures and receipts. He said it will not only help to ensure transparency of the financial matters, but also the sensitise the people about development projects and pace of work.
He was presiding over a meeting on the issues of administrators here on Thursday, disclosed an official. The minister said people has right to get information about the financial matters of their concerned town/tehsil and the Administrators have been directed to facilitate the public in this regard.
He also said billions of rupees were transferred to district governments and TMA’s in the name of development projects, but even elected members of local bodies know nothing about those transactions. “As far as public is concerned, it was deprived of the basic amenities, such as clean drinking water, sewerage, street lights, cleanliness, etc,” he added.
He directed the Administrators not to compromise on removal of encroachments, supply of clean drinking water, sewerage, streetlights and cleanliness. “People must feel a visible change between the nazmeen’s era and administrators. The Administrators should be trend setters and they should set such trends in the field of public service that people may force the elected members in future to follow the same trends.
Since the government has transferred all the powers of Nazims, Naib Nazims, and Tehsil/Town Assemblies to the Tehsil/Town Administrations, the government is fully justified to get desirable results about public service matters from them,” he added.
