Training workshop held on citizen journalism
KARACHI: A training workshop was arranged on the concept of ‘citizen journalism’ and ‘social media’. The aim of the workshop was to create awareness among the masses about the concept of citizen journalism and social media, find solutions to improve it and to make the people realise the role of it in strengthening democracy in a society.
People related to media (mostly from print media), bloggers, students of journalism and human rights activists were among the attendants. Farhan Khalid was the speaker whereas Shaukat Ali Ashraf moderated the workshop. Farhan briefed the background and emergence of the citizen journalism in the last one or two decades. Speaker linked the rise of this new branch of media to the catastrophe of 9/11, 2001 globally whereas in Pakistan, the horrendous earthquake which jolted Pakistan on October 8, 2005.
