Traders, civil society demonstrate in favour of Jang Group
LAHORE: A large number of traders and members of civil society on Sunday staged a demonstration on the Ferozepur Road to express solidarity with senior anchorperson Hamid Mir and the Jang Group.
Carrying placards, banners and pictures of Hamid Mir and Iftikhar Ahmed, the demonstrators gathered at Ashiana Chowk and vowed that they would not let anybody ban daily Jang and Geo TV on any pretext. They said the channel and the newspaper had proved to be a source of information for years about what was happening in the country and around the world. The said the Jang Group had rendered great sacrifices for the independence of media and informed the public about the truth.
They said daily Jang and Geo were being targeted only for speaking the truth. According to them, they loved the armed forces and defence institutes but the independence of media would have to be maintained for the continuation of democracy in the country.
