Torture of journalist in Naushahro Feroze: Rally, sit-in staged against PPP leader

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: Hundreds of activists of various political parties held a rally and staged a sit-in here on Saturday on the call of the All Parties Alliance against torture on local journalist Ghulam Hussain Soomro by the PPP district general secretary, Karam Shah, three weeks ago.

The rally was led by Convener of the All Parties Alliance, Naushahro Feroze, Gul Moro, President Naushahro Feroze Press Club Zahid Rajpar, Chairman Sindh Sagar Party Azizullah Bohio and Sagar Hanif Burdi of the JSQM.

Participants of the rally marched on city roads and reached the National Highway near Tharoo Shah Chowk where they staged the sit-in. They blocked the traffic for three hours.
The protesters chanted slogans against those involved in the torture incident.

Addressing the protesters, the leaders said that three weeks ago, Karam Shah, along with dozens of gunmen, had reached the City Police Station for getting registered an FIR against the watchmen of the food godown. When the FIR was not registered, they blocked the National Highway and tortured the passengers, they said. In the meantime, a team of electronic media reached the spot for covering the event, but Karam Shah tortured reporter Ghulam Hussain Soomro and snatched his camera, they added.

They demanded of the higher authorities to take action against Karam Ali Shah and arrest him after lodging an FIR.
They threatened to observe a shutter-down strike in case action was not taken against Karam Shah.
