Three alleged rapists held

KASUR, Sept 20: Police on Thursday arrested three suspects who allegedly raped a Christian girl a few weeks ago in Kacha Paka Chak 43 in Sarai Mughal police precincts.

The police arrested the suspects on the directives of Kasur superintendent of police (investigations) Syed Ali Mohsin who reinvestigated the case on court orders after the local police had exonerated them.

Riaz Ahmed, Abu Bakar Sadique and Afzal allegedly abducted 12-year-old “A”, the daughter of a Christian peasant, when she was going to a nearby shop to buy some household items. Later, they raped her and fled leaving her in a critical condition.

Though the police registered a case against the suspects, the investigation officer subsequently cleared them allegedly after accepting gratification.

The investigation officer’s conduct sparked the Christian community in the locality and they urged the victim’s family to move the court, which they did. While accepting their plea, Pattoki Additional Sessions Judge Qamar Rasheed ordered the SP (investigations) to investigate the matter afresh.

After a thorough probe, SP Mohsin found the suspects guilty of charges on which the police arrested them and sent them to jail. The SP also issued a show cause notice to the delinquent officer who had investigated the case earlier. Hundreds of locals, including Christians and Muslims, were also present outside the SP office on Thursday.
