The evolving role of media
THE role of media in Pakistan is evolving rapidly. It first became the beacon against political oppression and suppression of human rights, later it advocated the revival of the judiciary and then it took upon the cause of transparency in governance.
In all fairness we need to admit that the media gives a mirror image of what goes around in society, so turning our backs will not change the reality. Thus instead of trying to reform the media, it is more pertinent to reform society which exhibits trends of intolerance, ignorance and nepotism.
It is vital to ensure independence of the media as it guarantees more stable democracy and vice versa.
