Telenor investment to touch $1 billion by 2008

LAHORE (September 16 2006): Director Operations and Maintenance, Telenor Pakistan, Atiq Ahmad, has said that investment by his company’s investment in Pakistan will touch US $1 billion (excluding license fee) by the end of the year 2008. While addressing a seminar on “Telecom Industry and Training needs” here at Alhamra on Friday, Atiq said the number of Telenor subscribers in the country has exceeded four million.

He further said that GSM telecom sector in Pakistan had grown at a rate of 100 percent over the last four years. He hoped that the number of mobile phone subscribers will increase significantly in coming days. According to him, Telenor, with a 100 million subscribers across the globe, is ranked among the world’s top 25 telecom companies. Among others, the seminar was attended by Mohsin M. Syed, Chairman Punjab Industrial Estates Development and Management Company (PIE), and representatives of telecom companies including Siemens and Nokia, officials of Technical Educational and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta).
