PESHAWAR: Senior Pakistani Taliban commanders Monday denied to have opposed Geo Television or to have threatened cable operators to stop Geo TV Network channels in the country.

Maulvi Omar Khalid Khurassani, leader of the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Mohmand Agency, and member of TTP’s political shura, Qari Shakil were referring to media reports that quoted Qari Shakil to have threatened cable operators in Sargodha, Punjab, to stop Geo TV on cables network, otherwise they would be responsible themselves.

Talking to The News from an undisclosed location on telephone, Maulvi Omar Khalid Khurassani and Qari Shakil said they hadn’t threatened any cable operators to stop them from showing Geo TV.

“Well, we have some reservations about some religious andpolitical issues of Geo Television but there is no truth in the media reports that we warned cable operators not to show Geo TV. We would also find out the people who used our name for threatening the cable operators against showing the channel,” the dreaded Taliban commander, Omar Khalid Khurassani said. He said they had given the task to their people to trace the culprit who used the Taliban leadership for their personal interests.Qari Shakil said it was good that he was informed about this fake, threatening letter to cable operators on time and they immediately issued their denial.
