Support to free press reaffirmed
SIALKOT- The Chief Executive, General Pervez Musharraf, has observed that the national press is totally free and the journalist community is free to express its viewpoint without any pressure. Talking to newsmen at Sialkot dryport near Daska, he said the national press is a bridge between the government and the people. “The present government believes in free and healthy criticism in national press, because the healthy and positive criticism in the press will provide a wide support in resolving different national and international issues as to mitigate the people’s problems.”
Gen Musharraf said that the previous governments had tried to suppress the national press just for their personal gains and interests, adding that suppressing of national press is against the norms of democracy. “No hurdle in the way of free press would be tolerated and government would make every possible step to provide complete information to the press, for the wide interest of the country,” the Chief Executive added.
