Strangled Pir accused of 11-yr-old’s rape

KARACHI, June 15 2006: The mother of an ll-year-old girl who was allegedly raped by 50-year-old pir in Saeedabad filed a case in the Mochko police station last month against him and said that she will not accept the money that the pir’s family is reportedly offering for her to drop the charges. Shamim, the girl’s mother, alleges that her daughter ‘N’ was not the only person the Pir has raped. According to her, she had sent her daughter and two sons to Hakim Sarwar’s madrassa, as she could not afford to send them to school.

Shamim said that when she visited the madrassa to see her daughter she noticed that the child had gradually grown withdrawn. After six months of joining the madrassa, N ran away in the absence of Sarwar, as he was visiting Bangladesh. She went to an old employee of Shamim’s and told them that her mother had sent her to find a job. The family sent her to one of their relatives to work as a maid.

According to Shamim, the pir’s wife informed her that N was missing upon which she registered a complaint in Mochko police station. When N was found after eight days, Shamim took her to the police where, after a lot of convincing, the girl alleged that she had been raped by the Pir during ‘her stay at the madrassa arid he had threatened to hurt her if she disclosed his actions to her mother. She claimed while speaking to Daily Times that the police were initially not registering an FIR against him and this only became possible after the nazim of UC 7 of Moosa Colony intervened and contacted the Sindh Home minister, who issued orders for the FIR.

After an investigation and medical examinations, the Pir was arrested. While talking to Daily Times, the pir’s wife, a 22-yearold, said that it was the girl’s duty to please the pir and that there was no harm in doing so. She said the Pir liked little girls and she admitted that she had also been II years old when she married him when he was in his 40s. She said that she had offered the 11 year old’s mother money to compensate for the rape but she has declined.

UC Nazim Jahangir claimed that. the Pir had also raped a 14-yearold girl some three years ago. He said that the family of the girl couldn’t register an FIR due to the pir’s influence over the area’s police. He said that the Pir had used black magic to intimidate residents. Jahangir said that the landlord of the pit’s house was unable to evacuate his house for the last seven years due to fear of his mysterious powers. Aqsa buried amid anger and grief: Eleven-year-old Aqsa, who was killed after she was allegedly raped by her teenaged uncle in Orangi Town Tuesday was buried in Mai Hawa graveyard June 14.’

Neighbours expressed their anger against the incident. Investigations police said that the accused family had left their house situated in the same locality. Police sources said that her uncle had a bad reputation in the area. Two years ago he was reportedly found involved in a sexual assault case, after which he was blacklisted.
