Stoning facts Woman’s body exhumed

MULTAN: The body of a woman, who allegedly died of stoning in Chak 15/8-R of Khanewal, was exhumed on Friday in the presence of the area magistrate and doctors got samples of parts of her body for autopsy.

Mariam Bibi was allegedly pelted with bricks until she died on a village council’s decision last week for trespassing on a farm and stealing fodders from there.

Police and area residents reject the allegations of stoning and say she was killed in cold blood by her husband. The Supreme Court took notice of the incident.

The committee, made by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, and consisted of Sheikhupura Regional Police Officer Zulfiqar Cheema, DIG Investigation Chaudhry Shafiq and SSP Tariq Malik submitted an application to the court of area magistrate Rehman Elahi for the exhumation and autopsy of the body.

Mr Elahi supervised the exhumation while Dr Mahboob Jilani of the special forensic team constituted by the chief minister got samples and tissues of the body.

District Health Officer Dr Yousaf Sumra, Medical Superintendent Dr Muhammad Ashraf, Dr Abdul Qadir Awan, Dr Iftikhar Ahmed and Dr Samina Masood also got samples and tissues.
