Star’s reporter receives threatening calls from EDO office

BADIN, December 30 2005: The reporter of Daily Star, Hanif Samoon’s family received threatening number of calls from the Executive District Officer (EDO-Health) Badin, Dr. Mohammad Nawaz Abbasi, office in which unknown caller(s) asked family members to tell him not to write any thing against Dr. Abbasi otherwise he would be killed.

Talking to Pakistan Press Foundation, Mr. Samoon said, he was told by family members that some unknown person(s) from EDO (Health) office made number of calls on Thursday, December 29, 2005 and then late on Thursday night from the EDO’s office phone number 92-0297-861871. They used abusive language against him for filing stories against Dr. Mohammad Nawaz Abbasi, the EDO (Health) Badin.

Mr. Samoon on coming to know contacted all the concerned authorities including District Coordination Officer Mr. Aftab Ahmed Khatri who assured him to probe into the matter. Secretary Health Sindh, Noshad Sheikh also assured him to take notice of threatening calls from the office of the EDO (Health), he added.
