PESHAWAR – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Minister for Information and Culture, Mian Iftikhar Hussain has said that legend Pashto actress Yasmin Khan (late) was the crownless queen and pioneer of film industry, as she ruled the hearts of her fans for 25 years.

Her services for Pashto film industry would be remembered forever, he added. This he said while talking to media persons on the grave of legendry actress Yasmin Khan at Kakshal Peshawar on Thursday, which was renovated by the Culture Department. The minister was also accompanied by the Director Culture Pervez Khan Sabit Khel. The minister on this occasion offered Fateha for the departed soul of late Yasmin Khan. The minister maintained that actresses like Yasmin Khan were not born all the time, adding that services offered by her for Pashto film industry were unforgettable. He said that she had introduced vulgarity-free culture in the film screen, furthering that as and when she felt that vulgarity and obscenity was entering into Pashto films, she left them.

Mian Iftikhar said that artists were the custodians of their culture and they were the people who provided moments of joy to the society. “But unfortunately our artists did not get their due status and respect in our country, which is a great tragedy,” he said. He reiterated that they would give due respect to their artists and prove to the whole world that they loved their artists by heart.

The minister asserted, after 18th Constitutional Amendment, culture sector has fully been devolved to the province and now we were in a position to set up our own Censor Board at provincial level. He said that the provincial government was mulling to establish its own Film Industry. Similarly, special initiatives were underway for promotion of theatre, he said. He was also in close contact with Afghanistan, Iran and other countries for cooperation in the culture sector, he concluded.
