Sonia Naz goes missing?

LAHORE: An additional district and sessions judge on Saturday was informed that Sonia Naz, a victim of rape by police officers, could not be traced. The notice server informed the court that he had visited her place, but the house owner told him that she had left and he did not know her whereabouts. Her mother Khurshid Begum and father-in-law Muhammad Yousaf have already said they have no information about her. Her counsel, Naveed Inayat Malik, also informed the court that he had not met her and they only had a telephonic discussion once since he had been engaged in the case.

Muhammad Yousaf, father-in-law of Sonia, told the court that his wife had suffered paralysis and he too was ill, so he was not in a position to record his statement. The court directed him to appear with his wife on January 16 for recording their statements. The court also reserved its judgment on an application of the victim’s counsel. In the application, the counsel requested that the report of the investigation conducted by DIG Zaheer Qureshi should be included in the record of the case. According to the prosecution, SP Khalid Abdullah and Inspector Jamshed Chishty abducted Sonia Naz on May 3, 2005, from her home in Johar Town and raped her.
