Skill development scheme for flood-hit women

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Village Development Programme (PVDP) with the assistance of international welfare organisation of TROCAIR has launched skill development project for the residents of the flood-affected localities of the Union Council Mohib Banda, district Nowshera.

The project initiated under Community Empowerment and Livelihood Improvement Programme (CELIP) and will provide skill to the women of Jaba Daudzai, Banda Sheikh Ismail, Momin Ghari, Banda Miangaan and Camp Koroona to enable the residents of the area to earn livelihood in a dignified manner.

According to Imran Iqbal, Assistant Programme Manager, PVDP, the organisation is providing skill to the women of those rendered unemployment due to devastating floods of last year. The women of the affected villages of the Union Council, Mohib Banda will provide training in sewing, embroidery, fabric painting, flower making, ribbon work and decoration to support male members of their families in earning livelihood. On the completion of the training refresher courses will also be arranged for such women.

Pakistan Village Development Programme has provided sewing machines and other material relating to the training to those women. The selection of the deserving women had been carried out through the committees constituted at community level.

The purpose of the provision of technical training to the women is the provision of alternative employment to the flood affected families to get them red of the hard farming and bringing improvement in their economic conditions.

Imran Iqbal said that women selected for the training neither have male bread earner and nor have any other source of income to utilise it for looking after their families. Two under-training women hailing from Banda Sheikh Ismail are Thalesimmia patients and another one is disabled.
