Six new IT parks in the offing

ISLAMABAD- The ministry of science and technology (IT) parks in the private sector at a cost of Rs 39 million, an official statement said.

It said the Pakistan Software Export Board and the Pakistan Telecommunications Company Limited (PTCL) would jointly execute the project.

The IT programme is aimed at generating activity and employment in this sector and increasing the volume of IT exports. To achieve this goal, the government has decided to create an environment that is conducive to the expansion of the IT industry, the statement added.

According to the plan, buildings and other facilities will be provided by STP owners, fibre optic connectivity arranged by the government and STP applicants screened by the Pakistan Software Export Board.

STP operators will be asked to give a bank guarantee of Rs 2 million or bear the cost of the fibre used for the STP.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL), will be bound to ensure quality performance in meeting its obligations under an agreement with STP owners.
