Six Jamshoro women file petition against alleged police harassment

Karachi: Six women from Jamshoro filed a petition in the Sindh High Court (SHC) against alleged highhandedness by the police.
The petitioners, Sonia, Sadaf, Maha, Malook, Shahida, and Mai Muradan, residents of village Zeemi Taluka Manjhand, Jamshoro, submitted that after the February 18 elections, political victimisation has been started against male members of their families under the influence of the ruling party. They alleged that the Jamshoro police were registering false cases against their family members and were conducting raids at their houses besides keeping them in illegal confinement.
Their counsel, Wahab Baloch, submitted that the police had also set up pickets at houses of the petitioners as well as their agricultural land and alleged that on March 28, the police fired at the crop stock and deprived them of their livelihood.
He said that the petitioners were not staying in their homes due to fear. He alleged that the police were falsely implicating the male members of the petitioners. This, he said, was required to be investigated by an impartial inquiry officer. The court was requested to provide protection to the lives of the petitioners as well as the male members of their families, and restrain the police from harassing the petitioners and their family members.
Petition against kidnapping: The SHC, meanwhile, disposed of a petition of a woman seeking the recovery of her daughter as the court was informed that the petitioner’s daughter had married with her free will.
Sheeren Akbar Ali alleged that her daughter Tania was kidnapped by Taimor Khan on February 22.
Following the court’s order for production of Tania, the police produced the girl who said that she married Taimor Khan with her free will. The petitioner did not press the petition and the court disposed of it.
