Sindh IT Board focuses on key areas
KARACHI- Sindh Information Technology Board held its first meeting at the Governor House with Sindh Minister for Finance and Planning and Development Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh in the chair.
Minister for Industries Dewan Mohammad Yousuf Farooqui, a renowned IT entrepreneur, Dr Shafi Qureshi, IT professionals and the private sector representatives also attended the meeting, while, Sindh Governor, Muhammadmian Soomro attended the concluding session.
The Board focused on three main areas. First, the key areas of emphasis in IT Development in Sindh, second, the institutional structure of the Sindh IT Board, and the third, the areas in which the Sindh government can benefit from IT in its own functioning. Quality human resource development emerged as the major area in which the SIT Board will facilitate private sector.
The Board also constituted sub-committees in various areas. These will submit their recommendation for an action plan to the Board in three weeks time.
Other areas of emphasis discussed included coordination with ministry of science and technology, bandwidth, ISDN lines, establishment of technology parks, and funding of specific projects etc. There was a consensus that institutional structure should be led by qualified director and have a small, service-oriented highly professional staff.
