Sherry visits offices of Business Recorder, Aaj TV

KARACHI (January 18 2009): The Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Sherry Rehman has emphasised the need for undertaking concerted efforts towards strengthening the democratic institutions in the country. She was talking to media during a visit to the daily Business Recorder & Aaj TV here Saturday.

The Minister said that she was happy to visit the offices of daily Business Recorder and the television channel Aaj. Sherry Rehman praised their working in accordance with the spirit of the free media and the rules and the regulations of the same.

She was optimistic that the code of ethics would also be framed accordingly. Sherry hoped that this would be done, keeping in view the interests of the state especially at a time when there exists tension in the region. She said that she expects from the office bearers of the Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA) and the working journalists and the management of Aaj Television channel that there would be a headway in this very direction.

Sherry Rehman said that some of our friendly countries are ahead of us in this respect. She stated that she expected Pakistan would not lag behind on this count. The Minister stressed to undertake concerted measures for strengthening democratic institutions in the country and take a lead in this connection also.

Earlier, the Minister met the management of the daily Business Recorder and Aaj TV channel. On the occasion, she discussed a number of issues with Wamiq Zubari, Arshad Zubari and Asif Zubari. The matters, which came up for discussion, included the code of ethics as well as the economy of the country.

The Minister was of the view that media should evolve a code of conduct on its own and implement it accordingly. She was accompanied by the Special Assistant to the Sindh Chief Minister, Waqar Medhi, and a member of the Sindh Assembly, Humaira Alwani.
