Sherry condemns journalist’s killing
Islamabad: Former Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sherry Rehman has condemned the killing of a journalist Wasi Ahmed who succumbed to gun shot injuries in Karachi this week.
Wasi was shot at in Khasdar District during the outbreak of violence in Balochistan following the killing of three Baloch leaders last week.
She said that journalists are extremely vulnerable when they are reporting from volatile environment. There is a definitely need for more protected environment and safety procedures to ensure the security of the journalists in volatile situation.
She urged the journalist community to step up their efforts for devising safety guidelines for the media. “We all have a responsibility towards protecting the media community. After having lost so many of our dedicated friends to violence in the last few years, we should not waste any more time in preparing a safety procedure for the media reporters,” she added.
She condoled with the family of the Wasi and prayed to Allah Almighty to provide solace to the bereaved family for fortitude to bear the irreparable loss with equanimity.
