SHC directs ECP to probe forged degree
KARACHI: Allegations that the academic degrees of an MNA elect from NA-235 Sanghar are fake and forged have to be investigated by the Election Commission of Pakistan, directed the Sindh High Court Friday.
The division bench of Justice Azizullah M Memon and Justice Arshad Noor Khan passed these orders during the hearing of a constitutional petition filed by Sarfraz Rajar, a defeated candidate, against MNA elect Ghulam Dastagir Rajar of the PML-Functional.
The counsel for the petitioner submitted that all respondents, including the Returning Officer (RO) and others have been informed that Sindh University has notified that the degree held by the respondent was not issued by it (SU) but pleas by the petitioners were simply ignored. After hearing the counsel for the petitioner, the bench ordered an inquiry by the ECP.
The same bench put off the hearing of a number of petitions against MQM candidates till March 04 on a request by the respondents that time may be allowed to them for submit their replies to the allegations contained in the petitions alleging massive rigging.
