Sharmila provides aid to folk singer

KARACHI: Adviser to Sindh Chief Minister on Information Sharmila Farooqi said on Thursday that the government is assisting the folk artists at all levels because they are precious assets of the country.

She said this while talking to a folk singer Zeenat Shaikh at her office here. Sharmila said that Zeenat had rendered great services for the music lovers across Sindh.

She said that the Radio Pakistan had arranged Rs 10,000 monthly stipend for her, which would solve her financial problems. The adviser also provided Zeenat Rs 10,000 in order to enable her to meet her immediate needs.

Sharmila, after taking notice of a news story regarding the miserable condition of the folk singer, directed the Regional Director Information to bring her to Karachi and provide her medical facilities and financial support. Sharmila said, “It is the collective duty of the society to take care of the artists because they are the ambassadors of the nation.”

Meanwhile, Sharmila has strongly condemned a suicide attack in the limits of Bannu police station and said those who made suicide attacks could not be called Muslims. She requested all religious scholars and party leaders to come forward and save the people and the country from these elements.
