Shakeel, Arshad elected APNS president, secretary general

KARACHI: The Chief Executive of Jang Group of Publications, Mir Shakeel-ur-Rahman and the Deputy Chief Executive, Daily Business Recorder Arshad Zuberi were elected President and Secretary .General of All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) in Karachi on Wednesday.

The General Council of the Society met under the presidentship of the Chief Executive Dawn Group Hamid Haroon and elected Jamil Ather (Daily Tijarat) as Senior Vice President, Zia Shahid (Daily Khabrain) as Vice President, Wiqar Yousuf Azeemi (Roohani Digest) joint Secretary and Qazi Mohammad Aslam (Kawish) as Finance Secretary of the Society for the year 1999-2000.

The election process reflecting the spirit of unity in the ranks of print media sent 30 members to the Executive Committee in an unopposed election after detailed deliberation on the report of outgoing Executive Committee presented by the Secretary General Mir Javed-ur-Rahman.

The following members were elected to the Executive Committee for 1999-2000.

Karachi Daily Seats (6)

Daily Awami Awaz, Daily Business Recorder, Daily Dawn, Daily Jasarat, Daily Deyanat and Daily Qoumi Akhbar.

Lahore Daily Seats (6)

Daily Jang, Daily Tijarat, Daily Khabrain, Daily Musawat, Daily Sahafat and Daily Pakistan.

Punjab excluding Rwp/ibd (3)

Daily Paigham Faisalabad, Daily Aftab Multan and Daily Business Report Faisalabad.

Sindh excluding Karachi Daily Seats (2)

Daily Kaleem Sukkur and Daily Kawish Hyderabad.

NWFP Daily Seats (2)

Daily Wahdat Peshawar and Daily Jihad Peshawar

Balochistan Daily Seats (2)

Daily Bilochistan Express and Daily Bilochistan Times.

Rawalpindi/Islamabad Daily Seats (2)

Daily Wifaq and Daily The Muslim

The newly elected Executive Committee nominated monthly 7he Teenager on the women publisher seat of the Executive Committee.

Earlier the Resolution to the General Council for a reserved seat for women publisher to be nominated by the Executive Committee was adopted in the Extra Ordinary General Body Meeting. The proposal to have four vice presidents from each of the respective provinces was rejected by the General Council.
