Sexual harassment law hailed
ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly passed an amendment to the Pakistan Penal Code making sexual harassment as a crime.
A press release issued by the National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) said Criminal Procedures (Amendment) Act 2009 was passed by the lower house unanimously.
The chairperson of the NCSW, Ms Anis Haroon, said the legislation would certainly give more confidence to the women and send a strong message that the widespread sexual harassment at all places in society would not be tolerated.
Sexual harassment of women is one of the most common problems faced by women. It is a major challenge in their mobility outside home and accessing opportunities for livelihoods.
