Seventh Wage Board meeting held

QUETTA- The 12th meeting of the Seventh Wage Board for newspapers employees was held with its Chairman Justice Raja Afrasiab Khan in the chair.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the newspapers workers, Chairman of All Pakistan Newspapers Employees Confederation (APNEC) Abdul Hameed Chapra, Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) President I.H Rashid, APNEC Secretary-General Pervez Shaukat, Balochistan Union of Journalist President Majid Fauz and PFUJ Assistant Secretary-General Abdullah Jan.

The meeting discussed wages and interim relief for the newspaper employees in the backdrop of the price hike from the time to time between 1995 and 20001. The Chairman also recorded the statements of the employees of various newspapers published from Quetta and other areas of Balochistan.

The employees informed the Wage Board Chairman that they were facing great hardships due to price hike as no raise in their salaries had been made despite general increase in the price of all essential commodities, no they had been given the Interim Relief announced by the Chairman of the Wage Board.

They explained that the prices of food items had risen from 37 to 67 per cent.
