Senior journalist and Pakistan movement activist Sharif Farooq passes away

Sharif Farooq, a senior journalist and an activist of the Pakistan movement, died in Peshawar on Saturday morning after a protracted illness, according to Radio Pakistan.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif, State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb and Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Iqbal Zafar Jhagra expressed deep grief and sorrow over Farooq’s demise.

In their individual condolence messages, they appreciated Farooq’s contributions to journalism and as a member of Pakistan movement.

In her message, Marriyum Aurangzeb said Farooq had always pursued high journalistic traditions and values. “His contributions as a member of the Pakistan movement will also be remembered for all times to come,” she added.

Farooq was also the author of several books on Pakistan movement.

On May 14 this year, another senior journalist and media workers’ rights activist, Mumtaz Shamim Chaudhry had died of cardiac arrest. He was 57 years old and left behind two daughters and a son.
