Seminar on ‘Role of Media in Conflict Situations’ held
ISLAMABAD: Speakers here on Thursday highlighted the significant elements needed while reporting in conflict situation including responsibility, impartiality and accuracy as these were prerequisite for reliable journalism.
Media need to play its due role in bringing people together and creating greater understanding among diverse communities, while it was also highlighted the need for making media self accountable, speakers said during a seminar entitled “Role of Media in Conflict Situations” organised by Individual and Pakistan, a non government organisation here on Thursday.
They stressed that there was a need for founding of an institution for training of journalist who report from the conflict zones. There were different kinds of conflict and journalists should be aware of the environment they are in, they said. The participants stressed on developing a code of conduct for journalists working in conflict zones, along with standardising the safety procedures that can help to survive in the conflict situation.
