Security hazard: K-P home dept bans helicams
PESHAWAR: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Home and Tribal Affairs department has imposed a ban on using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and helicams – drones fitted with cameras – for broadcast purposes.
The decision has been taken on the directives of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regularity Authority (PEMRA). According to a notification issued by the home department, the use of such cameras has triggered serious concerns among security and aviation departments across the country.
“They have explicitly declared such technology as a security hazard to all major installations and has issued show-cause notices to several satellite television channels,” the notification revealed.
It added security agencies have already declared use of UAVs as breach of security protocols.
The notification added that the ban shall remain in place until further policies are formulated in consultation with security agencies, aviation department and other stakeholders.
